This quick guide shows how to use our seaweed products on everything from gardens, to Our Ascophyllum nodosum kelp meals and extracts are rich in plant nutrients and organic compounds that work together to improve soil texture, feed beneficial soil microbes, and improve plant nutrient uptake, vigor, and resilience.
The following basic programs are chosen as examples of how to use our products on your garden, trees, and lawn. For more in depth instructions, please see specific product labels or contact us for additional information. Products are best used as part of a complete plant nutritional program, and may be applied with most other plant products and fertilizers.
For Mixed Vegetables
- In early spring, apply SeaLife Kelp Meal for Soils at a rate of 1 lb. per 100 square feet and mix into the topsoil.
- At sowing or planting, water in with a 0.5% Kelp-It solution (about 4 teaspoons of Kelp-It Concentrated Liquid Seaweed Extract per gallon of water, or 1 teaspoon of Kelp-It Soluble Seaweed Extract Powder per gallon of water).
- During the growing season, spray plants with a 0.5-1% Kelp-It solution once every 2 to 4 weeks. Spray plants until foliage is thoroughly wetted. Apply in the morning or during cooler weather (under 80°F).
- In early summer, side-dress rows with 0.5 lb. of SeaLife for Soils per 100 square feet. Repeat in mid and late summer.
- Spray or water plants with a 0.5% Kelp-It solution applied to the soil 1 to 3 days before forecasted periods of drought, high temperatures, or frost, to improve stress resistance and recovery.
- Applications of Kelp-It can be continued until the day of harvest.
- Following harvest and bed cleanup, apply 1 lb. of SeaLife per 100 square feet and mix into the topsoil.
For Berry Crops and Fruit & Nut Trees
- For established trees, apply 1 lb. SeaLife Kelp Meal for Soils per inch of trunk caliper. Distribute the product around the tree’s dripline (the area just under the edge of the canopy). Work the kelp meal into the soil, or auger holes around circumference of dripline and fill. For berries, apply 1 lb. per 100 square feet around the planting and mix into the topsoil.
- For new plantings, water in with a 0.5% Kelp-It solution (about 4 teaspoons of Kelp-It Concentrated Liquid Seaweed Extract per gallon of water, or 1 teaspoon of Kelp-It Soluble Seaweed Extract Powder per gallon of water).
- During the growing season, spray plants with a 0.5-1% solution of Kelp-It once every 2 to 4 weeks. Spray plants until the foliage is thoroughly wetted. Apply in the morning or during cool conditions (under 80°F).
- In early summer, side-dress with 0.5 lb. of SeaLife for Soils per 100 square feet or 0.5 lb. per inch of trunk caliper. Repeat in mid and late summer.

For Flowers and Ornamental Trees & Shrubs
- In early spring, apply SeaLife Kelp Meal for Soils at a rate of 1 lb. per 100 square feet and mix into the topsoil. Or, for trees, apply 1 lb. SealLife per inch of trunk caliper. For Lawns
- In early spring, broadcast 10 lbs. of SeaLife Kelp Meal for Soils per 1000 square feet. Spray with a 0.1-0.3% Kelp-It solution (about 1-2 teaspoons of Kelp-It Concentrated Liquid Seaweed Extract per gallon of water, or 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoons of Kelp-It Soluble Seaweed Extract Powder per gallon of water) at the first signs of greening.
- During the growing season, apply a 0.1-.0.3% Kelp-It solution every 2-4 weeks. Pause applications if the lawn is dormant (e.g. cool season turf in midsummer), and resume applications when dormancy ends.
- Spray or water plants with a 0.1-0.3% Kelp-It solution applied to the soil 1 to 3 days before forecasted periods of drought, high temperatures, to improve stress resistance and recovery.
- In the fall, broadcast an additional 10 lbs. of SeaLife per 1000 square feet.
